Job Brief
The Wire Temperer is responsible for setting up, operating, and tending various heating equipment to effectively temper, harden, anneal, or heat treat metal or plastic components. This role requires a solid understanding of heat treatment processes, attention to detail, and the ability to monitor and adjust furnace operations to achieve desired material properties. Candidates should possess relevant experience in metalworking or manufacturing environments and demonstrate proficiency in operating heat-treating furnaces and related machinery.
Responsibilities
- Set up and calibrate heating equipment such as heat-treating furnaces, flame-hardening machines, and induction machines.
- Operate soaking pits and vacuum equipment to ensure precise temperature control during tempering processes.
- Monitor heating cycles and adjust temperature and timing parameters to meet production specifications.
- Inspect metal or plastic objects before and after heat treatment to assess quality and adherence to specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of production processes, adjustments made, and material properties achieved.
- Conduct routine maintenance on heating equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Work collaboratively with production teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize heat treatment processes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in metallurgy or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a wire temperer or in a similar role within the metalworking or manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of heat treatment processes, including tempering, hardening, and annealing techniques.
- Familiarity with heat-treating equipment and safety protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
