Job Brief

The Winemaker is responsible for overseeing the entire winemaking process, from grape selection and fermentation to aging and bottling. This role requires a strong understanding of viticulture and oenology, along with hands-on experience in operating winery equipment. The ideal candidate will have excellent sensory evaluation skills, a passion for wine production, and the ability to manage a team effectively to produce high-quality wines.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain continuous flow and vat-type winemaking equipment, including fermenting tanks and filtering systems.
  • Monitor fermentation processes and adjust parameters to ensure optimal flavor and quality.
  • Conduct regular quality control assessments and sensory evaluations of wines.
  • Develop and implement winemaking techniques to enhance product quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with vineyard managers to determine optimal grape harvesting times.
  • Manage the storage, aging, and bottling of wines, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Document production processes and maintain accurate records of all winemaking activities.
  • Train and supervise winery staff in efficient winemaking practices and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Oenology, Viticulture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in winemaking or a related role.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining winery equipment, including centrifuges and evaporating tanks.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of wine production regulations and safety standards.
  • Certification in Wine Production or related qualifications is a plus.
