Job Brief
The Wild Oyster Harvester is responsible for the sustainable collection of wild oysters and other aquatic resources. This role requires hands-on experience in marine harvesting techniques, including the use of nets, traps, and other specialized equipment. Responsibilities
- Hunt, trap, and gather wild oysters and other aquatic species using nets and traps.
- Operate and maintain harvesting equipment and vessels to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Monitor environmental conditions and aquatic habitats to maximize sustainable yield.
- Document daily catch and maintain accurate records of harvested quantities.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding marine life harvesting.
- Collaborate with marine biologists and environmental agencies to promote sustainable practices.
- Conduct regular inspections of harvesting sites to assess health and viability of oyster beds.
- Perform physical labor, including hauling and unloading catch onto vessels.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience in marine environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of marine biology and aquatic ecosystems.
- Proficiency in operating boats and marine harvesting equipment.
- Ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions.
- Strong physical stamina and capability to lift heavy loads.
