Job Brief
The Wetlands Conservation Laborer plays a vital role in the preservation and maintenance of critical ecosystems, including wetlands, forests, and rangelands. Under supervision, the laborer will perform manual labor tasks such as planting seedlings, combating pests, and constructing structures to manage water flow and prevent soil erosion. Ideal candidates will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to environmental conservation. Experience with ecological restoration and knowledge of native plant species is highly beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planting and transportation of seedlings to support forest and wetland restoration efforts.
- Implement pest control measures to protect plant life from harmful insects and diseases.
- Construct and maintain water control structures to manage erosion and soil leaching.
- Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of plant health and ecosystem stability.
- Collect and gather non-timber forestry products, including pine straw, for sustainable use.
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation during conservation activities.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to achieve conservation goals and objectives.
- Follow safety protocols and best practices to minimize environmental impact during labor tasks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant coursework in environmental science or forestry is a plus.
- Previous experience in conservation, landscaping, or manual labor roles preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Familiarity with native plant species and ecological restoration practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for traveling to different work sites.
- Basic knowledge of safety regulations related to labor in natural environments.
