Job Brief
We are seeking a dedicated Weed Science Research Technician to support agricultural scientists in conducting impactful plant and animal research. This role involves setting up and maintaining laboratory equipment, collecting samples from crops and animals, and preparing specimens for analysis. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in biological research and a strong understanding of agricultural practices aimed at improving crop yield and quality while enhancing plant and animal resistance to diseases and pests.
Responsibilities
- Assist agricultural scientists in planning and executing experiments focused on weed science and crop management.
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory and field equipment for research purposes.
- Collect and prepare biological samples from crops and animals for testing and analysis.
- Conduct tests to evaluate the effectiveness of herbicides and other pest management strategies.
- Record and analyze data accurately to support scientific research and reporting.
- Monitor plant and animal health in research trials, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with research teams to develop innovative solutions for agricultural challenges.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to stay updated on industry trends and methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Biology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in laboratory settings and field research, particularly in weed science or agricultural studies.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis software, such as Excel and statistical analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of agronomic principles and pest management practices.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as required.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
