Job Brief
The Warning Coordination Meteorologist is responsible for investigating atmospheric phenomena and interpreting meteorological data from diverse sources, including surface and air stations, satellites, and radar systems. This role involves preparing detailed weather reports and forecasts that serve public safety and various stakeholders. Ideal candidates possess a deep knowledge of meteorology, strong analytical skills, and experience in emergency response coordination.
Responsibilities
- Analyze meteorological data to identify potential hazardous weather conditions.
- Prepare and disseminate timely weather forecasts and warnings to the public and relevant agencies.
- Collaborate with emergency management officials to develop effective weather response strategies.
- Utilize advanced meteorological software and tools for data analysis and visualization.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for stakeholders on severe weather preparedness and response.
- Maintain accurate records of weather events and forecast performance for review and improvement.
- Engage with the media to communicate critical weather information effectively.
- Participate in research initiatives to enhance forecasting techniques and methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in weather forecasting or a related meteorological role.
- Proficiency in using meteorological software and tools (e.g., GIS, Doppler radar).
- Strong understanding of atmospheric dynamics and severe weather systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for engaging with diverse audiences.
- Experience in emergency management or disaster response is highly desirable.
- Certification from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) or the National Weather Association (NWA) is a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as weather conditions require.
