Job Brief
The Vineyard Tender is responsible for the manual planting, cultivating, and harvesting of various crops, including grapes and other horticultural specialties. This role requires hands-on experience with hand tools and equipment, as well as a strong understanding of agricultural practices. Ideal candidates will possess a passion for sustainable farming and the ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment. Key skills include soil management, crop maintenance, and knowledge of pest control methods.
Responsibilities
- Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest crops such as grapes and other fruits.
- Utilize hand tools including shovels, trowels, hoes, and pruning shears for various agricultural tasks.
- Till soil and apply fertilizers to improve crop yield and health.
- Transplant, weed, thin, and prune crops as necessary to ensure optimal growth.
- Apply pesticides and other treatments to maintain crop health and prevent infestations.
- Clean, grade, sort, pack, and load harvested products for distribution.
- Construct trellises, repair fences, and maintain farm buildings as needed.
- Participate in irrigation activities to ensure proper water supply for crops.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; experience in agriculture or horticulture is a plus.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools and machinery related to farming practices.
- Knowledge of soil management, pest control, and crop maintenance techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physical stamina for manual labor.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures effectively.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Prior experience in vineyard management or similar agricultural roles is advantageous.
