Job Brief
As a Veterinary Surgery Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting veterinarians during surgical procedures and performing essential laboratory tests for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in animals. Your expertise in preparing vaccines, handling tissue and blood samples, and maintaining surgical instruments will ensure high-quality care for pets and other animals. Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures by preparing the surgical area and instruments.
- Perform medical tests in a laboratory environment, including urinalysis and blood counts, to aid in diagnosis.
- Prepare and administer vaccines and serums for the prevention of diseases in animals.
- Collect and handle blood and tissue samples while ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment to adhere to safety standards.
- Monitor animals’ vital signs during surgery and recovery, providing necessary support.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory tests and surgical procedures performed.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners about pre-operative and post-operative care instructions.
Requirements
- Completion of a Veterinary Technician program or equivalent certification.
- Active state licensure as a Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred.
- Experience in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital, particularly in surgical settings.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, surgical procedures, and laboratory techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and team members.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in using veterinary software and managing electronic medical records.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to assist in surgical and laboratory tasks.
