Job Brief

As an Urban Planner, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive plans and programs that guide the use of land and physical facilities in towns, cities, counties, and metropolitan areas. Your role involves collaborating with local government officials, community stakeholders, and other professionals to create sustainable urban environments. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in urban planning, spatial analysis, and project management, along with excellent communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct land use planning and zoning analysis to inform development strategies.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders to gather input and address community needs.
  • Create and present urban development plans, reports, and proposals to decision-makers.
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other software tools for data analysis and mapping.
  • Evaluate environmental impact assessments and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develop strategies for transportation planning, housing development, and public spaces.
  • Monitor and analyze demographic trends and economic factors affecting urban development.
  • Facilitate public meetings and workshops to engage community members in the planning process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in urban planning or a related field.
  • Proficiency in GIS software and urban planning tools.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning laws, land use regulations, and environmental policies.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is a plus.
