Job Brief
The Tug Boat Engineer is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the crew engaged in the operation and maintenance of engines, boilers, deck machinery, and electrical, sanitary, and refrigeration equipment aboard tug boats. This role requires individuals with significant technical expertise and experience in marine engineering, focusing on ensuring the safety and efficiency of all machinery and systems on board.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all marine engines and propulsion systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards regarding vessel operations.
- Supervise crew members in the daily maintenance tasks and emergency procedures.
- Monitor performance indicators and troubleshoot machinery issues to maintain optimal operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of spare parts.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and operational planning.
- Conduct training and development for crew members on equipment operation and safety protocols.
- Participate in regular inspections and audits to assess the condition of all machinery and systems.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a marine engineer or similar role within the maritime industry.
- Technical certification in marine engineering or equivalent qualifications.
- Strong knowledge of marine propulsion and auxiliary systems, including electrical and hydraulic equipment.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and regulatory compliance standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with crew members and other departments.
- Ability to perform physical tasks and work in challenging marine conditions.
- Valid STCW certification and other relevant maritime safety training.
