Job Brief
The Trenching Machine Operator is responsible for operating and tending to trenching machinery at surface mining sites. This role requires expertise in utilizing equipment such as scoops, shovels, and buckets to excavate and load loose materials efficiently. Successful candidates will possess a strong understanding of safety protocols, machinery operation, and maintenance, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Candidates with prior experience in mining or excavation are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Operate trenching machinery to perform excavation tasks at surface mining locations.
- Load and unload loose materials using scoops, shovels, or buckets.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate excavation activities effectively.
- Monitor machinery performance and report any issues to supervisors promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials excavated.
- Follow project plans and specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating trenching machines or similar excavation equipment.
- Strong knowledge of surface mining operations and techniques.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in the mining industry.
- Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Valid certification for operating heavy machinery (e.g., OSHA, NCCCO) preferred.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in heavy machinery operation is a plus.
