Job Brief

The Tree Shear Operator is responsible for operating specialized heavy machinery, including logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with attachments such as bulldozer blades and frontal shears. The role involves felling trees, skidding, loading, unloading, and stacking logs, as well as clearing brush and pulling stumps. Successful candidates will possess hands-on experience with logging equipment, demonstrate safety awareness, and exhibit strong mechanical skills to ensure efficient operation in diverse forestry environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with various accessories to fell trees and clear land.
  • Utilize frontal shears and grapples for efficient loading, unloading, and stacking of logs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Skid logs and assist in transporting timber to designated locations.
  • Clear brush and pull stumps using appropriate logging equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while operating equipment in the field.
  • Collaborate with team members to execute logging operations effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Tree Shear Operator or in a similar role within the logging industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of logging machinery and equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in forestry operations.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred for operating logging trucks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
