Job Brief
As a Train Engineer, you will be responsible for operating electric, diesel-electric, steam, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives to efficiently transport passengers or freight. This role requires a strong understanding of train orders, electronic and manual signals, and adherence to railroad rules and regulations. Responsibilities
- Operate various types of locomotives to transport passengers or freight safely and efficiently.
- Interpret train orders and signals to ensure compliance with railroad regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and perform routine maintenance on locomotives.
- Monitor train performance and make adjustments as necessary to maintain optimal operation.
- Communicate effectively with crew members and dispatchers regarding train operations and issues.
- Respond to emergencies and make critical decisions to ensure passenger and freight safety.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of train operations and maintenance activities.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and safety protocols to ensure compliance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a train engineer certification program preferred.
- Valid locomotive engineer certification and/or appropriate state licensure.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in train operation or related field.
- Strong knowledge of railroad signaling systems and operational safety protocols.
- Ability to work in diverse weather conditions and adapt to changing schedules.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficient mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness to undergo ongoing training and professional development.
