Job Brief
The Traffic Lieutenant plays a critical role in overseeing and coordinating the activities of police personnel dedicated to traffic enforcement and public safety. This position requires substantial leadership experience and strong communication skills to effectively manage team operations, enforce traffic laws, and ensure the safety of roadways. Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations of traffic enforcement units to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal traffic laws.
- Coordinate training programs for police officers focused on traffic safety and enforcement techniques.
- Develop and implement traffic safety initiatives to reduce accidents and enhance public safety.
- Conduct investigations into traffic accidents and violations, analyzing data to identify trends and develop corrective measures.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on traffic operations and present findings to law enforcement leadership and community stakeholders.
- Engage with the community to promote awareness of traffic safety issues and foster positive relationships with the public.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and public safety organizations to address traffic-related challenges.
- Evaluate officer performance and provide constructive feedback to ensure high standards of service and professionalism.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public safety, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in law enforcement with a focus on traffic enforcement, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Extensive knowledge of traffic laws, enforcement procedures, and accident investigation techniques.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for community engagement and collaboration.
- Certification in accident investigation and traffic safety programs is highly desirable.
- Ability to analyze data and generate reports to inform decision-making and strategy development.
- Valid driver’s license and successful completion of police academy training.
