Job Brief
The Track Surfacing Machine Operator is responsible for laying, repairing, and maintaining track for standard or narrow-gauge railroad equipment. This role involves operating specialized machinery in various environments, including regular railroad service, plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. Ideal candidates should possess experience in track maintenance and operation of ballast cleaning and railroad bed tamping machines. Responsibilities
- Operate track surfacing machinery, including ballast cleaning machines and tamping machines, to maintain railroad tracks.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Lay and repair track, ensuring alignment, elevation, and gauge are within industry standards.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and execute track maintenance projects efficiently.
- Monitor track conditions and report any issues or needed repairs to supervisors.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used during operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Track Surfacing Machine Operator or similar role in the railroad industry.
- Familiarity with track maintenance procedures and machinery operation.
- Strong mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to railroad operations.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical labor.
- Valid driver’s license and, where applicable, certification to operate specialized machinery.
