Job Brief
The Track Maintainer is responsible for laying, repairing, and maintaining track for standard or narrow-gauge railroad equipment utilized in various settings, including regular railroad services and plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in track maintenance, with expertise in operating ballast cleaning machines and railroad bed tamping machines. This role requires a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Lay, repair, and maintain railroad tracks to ensure safe and efficient operation of trains.
- Operate specialized equipment such as ballast cleaning machines and tamping machines.
- Inspect tracks regularly to identify wear and damage, performing necessary repairs.
- Coordinate with team members to execute track maintenance projects effectively.
- Follow safety protocols and industry regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
- Document maintenance activities and report progress to supervisors.
- Respond to track emergencies and perform troubleshooting as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge in track maintenance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
- Proven experience in track maintenance or a related field.
- Familiarity with operating ballast cleaning and tamping machines.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations in the railroad industry.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license; certification in related machinery operation is preferred.
