Job Brief
The Track Layer is responsible for laying, repairing, and maintaining track for standard or narrow-gauge railroad equipment used in various settings, including regular railroad service, plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. This role requires hands-on experience in track installation, repair techniques, and proficiency in operating ballast cleaning machines and railroad bed tamping machines. Ideal candidates possess strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Lay and align railroad tracks to ensure proper gauge and stability.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of tracks and related equipment.
- Repair damaged sections of track using industry-standard techniques and materials.
- Operate ballast cleaning machines to maintain track integrity and drainage.
- Utilize railroad bed tamping machines to compact track substructure and enhance stability.
- Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and material usage.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications preferred.
- Proven experience in track laying, repair, or maintenance roles.
- Familiarity with ballast cleaning and tamping machines.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and practices in the railroad industry.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
