Job Brief

As a Towboat Pilot, you will command and supervise the operations of various water vessels, including tugboats and ferryboats, ensuring safe navigation and adherence to maritime regulations. This role requires a valid U.S. Coast Guard license and a strong understanding of vessel operations, navigation techniques, and emergency procedures. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic marine environment.

Responsibilities

  • Navigate and pilot towboats and other water vessels safely through various waterways.
  • Monitor vessel operations and ensure compliance with maritime laws and regulations.
  • Supervise crew members and coordinate all operational activities onboard.
  • Conduct pre-departure inspections and routine maintenance checks on vessels.
  • Implement safety protocols and emergency procedures to protect the crew and cargo.
  • Maintain accurate logs of vessel operations, cargo status, and any incidents that occur.
  • Communicate effectively with port authorities and other maritime professionals.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior crew members on navigation and vessel handling.

Requirements

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard license for operating towboats and similar vessels.
  • Proven experience as a Towboat Pilot or in a similar maritime position.
  • Strong knowledge of navigation systems and maritime regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively manage crew and operations.
  • Ability to work under pressure in challenging weather and environmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with vessel safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform onboard duties and emergency tasks.
