Job Brief
As a Tow Boat Captain, you will command and supervise the operations of towing vessels, including tugboats and ferryboats, ensuring safe and efficient navigation in various waterways. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in maritime operations, excellent leadership skills, and a valid U.S. Coast Guard license. This role requires a commitment to safety regulations and environmental standards while providing exceptional service to clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Operate and navigate tow boats safely in compliance with maritime regulations and company policies.
- Supervise crew members, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational efficiency.
- Conduct routine inspections of vessels and equipment to ensure safety and operational readiness.
- Communicate effectively with crew, clients, and harbor authorities to coordinate towing operations.
- Monitor weather conditions and navigational challenges to make informed decisions during operations.
- Maintain accurate logs of voyages, crew activities, and incidents as required by regulatory bodies.
- Train and mentor crew members in safe operating procedures and vessel handling techniques.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, executing contingency plans and ensuring crew safety.
Requirements
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard license for the operation of towing vessels.
- Proven experience in maritime operations, with a focus on towing and vessel navigation.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, navigation charts, and maritime laws.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective coordination.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as required by job demands.
- Physical stamina and agility to handle the demands of working on water vessels.
- First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
