Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Tool Maker with extensive experience in analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, and operating machine tools. The ideal candidate will be proficient in fitting and assembling parts to manufacture and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools. This role requires a strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine tooling requirements.
- Lay out metal stock accurately to prepare for machining processes.
- Set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes, mills, and grinders.
- Fit and assemble parts to produce high-quality dies, cutting tools, and fixtures.
- Inspect finished tools and components for adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Repair and maintain existing tools and equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to refine tooling designs.
- Document processes and maintain records of all work performed and materials used.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree in machining or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a Tool Maker or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in using machine tools, precision measuring instruments, and hand tools.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, and tooling systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices in a machine shop setting.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
