Job Brief
The Timber Management Technician plays a vital role in the conservation and management of forest resources. This position involves providing technical assistance in the conservation of soil, water, and forests while compiling data related to forest tracts. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills to train and guide forest workers in effective forest propagation and fire prevention strategies. A solid understanding of rangeland management and wildlife habitat protection is essential, as is the ability to collaborate with conservation scientists and foresters.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the conservation and management of soil, water, and forest resources.
- Compile and analyze data on the size, content, condition, and characteristics of forest tracts.
- Train and supervise forest workers in forest propagation techniques and fire prevention measures.
- Support conservation scientists in managing, improving, and protecting rangelands and wildlife habitats.
- Conduct field assessments and evaluations to monitor forest health and productivity.
- Implement best practices for sustainable forestry and habitat management.
- Prepare reports and documentation related to forest management activities.
- Coordinate with local agencies and stakeholders to promote conservation initiatives.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in forest management, conservation practices, or environmental science.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and interpret complex data.
- Familiarity with sustainable forestry practices and wildlife habitat management techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
- Ability to operate forestry-related equipment and tools safely.
- Certification in Wildland Firefighting or related training is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various field locations as required.
