Job Brief
The Timber Estimator plays a crucial role in the forestry and lumber industry by accurately grading logs and estimating the marketable content and value of logs or pulpwood. Responsibilities
- Grade logs and evaluate the marketable content of logs or pulpwood in sorting yards and log decks.
- Inspect logs for defects and assess their quality using industry-standard methods.
- Measure logs to determine volume and calculate estimated timber values.
- Collaborate with forestry professionals to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
- Maintain detailed records of log measurements, grades, and market values.
- Stay updated on market trends and pricing fluctuations in the timber industry.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.
- Utilize software and tools for estimating and reporting purposes.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Timber Estimator or in a related role within the forestry or lumber industry.
- Strong knowledge of timber grading standards and market valuation techniques.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with relevant software applications for estimating and data management.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Certification in forestry, timber management, or a related field is preferred.
- Physical ability to work outdoors and handle logs as needed.
