Job Brief
As a Third Rail Installer, you will be responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of electric gate crossings, signals, signal equipment, track switches, section lines, and intercommunication systems within railroad systems. This role requires a keen understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, and hands-on experience in rail infrastructure. Ideal candidates will possess strong problem-solving skills and an ability to work in diverse environments, ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of rail systems.
Responsibilities
- Install and maintain third rail systems and related equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Inspect and test electric gate crossings and signaling systems for proper operation and safety compliance.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on track switches and section lines.
- Repair and replace faulty signal equipment and intercommunication systems as needed.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to implement system upgrades and improvements.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices while working in high-risk environments.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with industry advancements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a third rail installer or in a similar role within the railroad industry.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, signal technology, and safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various job sites.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- OSHA safety certification or equivalent is a plus.
