Job Brief
The Theatrical Wardrobe Attendant plays a vital role in the preparation and maintenance of costumes for stage performances. This position requires a keen eye for detail and a passion for the performing arts, as the attendant will select, fit, and care for costumes used by cast members. The ideal candidate will have experience in costume design, garment care, and quick costume changes, ensuring that performers are dressed appropriately and promptly during productions.
Responsibilities
- Assist in selecting and fitting costumes to ensure proper sizing and comfort for cast members.
- Maintain and repair costumes, ensuring they are in excellent condition before and during performances.
- Support performers with quick costume changes, ensuring timely transitions between scenes.
- Organize and manage costume inventory, tracking all pieces and their condition.
- Collaborate with costume designers and directors to understand the vision and requirements for each production.
- Provide assistance during rehearsals to familiarize cast members with costumes and fittings.
- Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene standards in costume handling.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; degree in costume design, fashion, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a wardrobe attendant or in a similar role within the theater industry.
- Strong knowledge of fabrics, garment care, and costume construction.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively during performances.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse teams.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules.
- Basic sewing and alteration skills; experience with costume repair is a plus.
