Job Brief
The Telephone Lineworker is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications cables, including fiber optics, to ensure high-quality communication services. This role requires a strong technical background and hands-on experience in working with various types of telecommunications infrastructure. Successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and safety practices, contributing to the efficient operation of telecommunication networks.
Responsibilities
- Install and terminate telecommunications cables, including fiber optic and copper lines, in residential and commercial settings.
- Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on existing telephone lines and telecommunications equipment.
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment for cable splicing, testing, and installation.
- Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues, ensuring minimal downtime for customers.
- Adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations while working at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Collaborate with project managers and other technicians to complete installations and repairs in a timely manner.
- Document work performed and maintain accurate records of installations and repairs.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends related to telecommunications infrastructure.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in telecommunications is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Telephone Lineworker or in a similar role in the telecommunications industry.
- Strong understanding of telecommunications systems, including fiber optics and copper cabling.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in telecommunications installation and repair.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, with a commitment to safety practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
