Job Brief
As a Telecommunications Switch Technician, you will play a crucial role in the installation, setup, and maintenance of switching, distribution, routing, and dialing equipment in central offices or headends. You will be responsible for servicing and repairing telecommunications equipment, including telephone, cable television, and Internet systems, both on-site at customers’ properties and within building infrastructures. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with telecommunications systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work in fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain switching and routing equipment in central offices and headends.
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on telecommunications systems to ensure optimal functionality.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to telephone, cable, and Internet services, providing timely repairs and solutions.
- Rearrange and remove existing telecommunications equipment as necessary to accommodate system upgrades or modifications.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement new technologies and improve service delivery.
- Document all service activities, repairs, and installations accurately for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Install and maintain communications wiring and equipment in various customer locations.
- Provide exceptional customer service while interacting with clients during installations and repairs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications in telecommunications preferred.
- Proven experience as a Telecommunications Switch Technician or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications systems, including switching, routing, and distribution equipment.
- Hands-on experience with installation and maintenance of telecommunications wiring and equipment.
- Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients and team members.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as required by service demands.
