Job Brief
The Street Sweeper Operator is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order on public roadways and thoroughfares. This role requires the operation of specialized street cleaning vehicles to remove debris, dirt, and litter from streets, parking lots, and other paved surfaces. The ideal candidate will have experience in vehicle operation, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and environmental standards. Proficiency in minor vehicle maintenance and repair is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain street sweeping vehicles to ensure efficient cleaning of urban and suburban roadways.
- Inspect sweeper equipment before and after use to ensure proper functionality and compliance with safety regulations.
- Collect and dispose of debris, leaves, and litter in accordance with local waste management guidelines.
- Coordinate with city officials to determine priority areas for street cleaning based on traffic patterns and seasonal needs.
- Monitor and report issues such as potholes, damaged road signs, and other hazards encountered during street cleaning operations.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety protocols while operating street sweeping machinery.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including hours operated and areas serviced.
- Participate in routine training to stay updated on equipment operation and environmental best practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in vehicle operation preferred.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery, preferably street sweepers or similar equipment.
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations related to vehicle operation.
- Ability to perform basic mechanical repairs and maintenance on street sweeping equipment.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with team members and the public.
