Job Brief
The Spotlight Operator is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and dismantling light fixtures, lighting control devices, and associated rigging equipment used in photography, television, film, video, and live productions. This role requires a strong understanding of lighting techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a production team. Candidates should possess prior experience in lighting operations, a keen eye for focusing light, and proficiency in using color filters and other lighting accessories to enhance visual storytelling.
Responsibilities
- Set up and take down lighting equipment for various productions, ensuring optimal placement and functioning.
- Operate and focus light fixtures during rehearsals and live performances to achieve the desired visual effects.
- Maintain lighting control devices, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues as they arise.
- Collaborate closely with directors, cinematographers, and other crew members to understand lighting requirements and artistic vision.
- Attach color filters and other accessories to achieve specific lighting designs and effects.
- Follow safety protocols while handling electrical equipment and rigging setups.
- Keep accurate records of lighting setups and equipment inventory for future reference.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in lighting technology to enhance production quality.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a spotlight operator or in a similar role within the film, television, or live event industry.
- Strong technical skills in lighting equipment, including knowledge of different types of fixtures and control systems.
- Familiarity with rigging techniques and safety standards related to light installation.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing production schedules and requirements.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with an emphasis on collaboration.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed for productions.
- Certification in electrical safety or related fields is a plus.
