Job Brief

The Special Education Instructional Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting students with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities within preschool, elementary, middle, or secondary school settings. Responsibilities

  • Support the lead teacher in delivering tailored educational activities and lesson plans for students with diverse needs.
  • Assist students in academic tasks, reinforcing learning concepts and encouraging participation.
  • Implement behavioral management techniques to promote a positive classroom atmosphere.
  • Help students develop social skills through structured group activities and one-on-one interactions.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to adapt instructional materials and resources for diverse learning styles.
  • Monitor student progress and document observations to support the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide physical assistance to students as needed, ensuring their safety and comfort during school activities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher in Special Education or related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and practices, including IEP development and implementation.
  • Ability to implement behavioral management strategies and adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
  • Certification or training in CPR and First Aid is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using assistive technology and educational software to enhance learning experiences.
