Job Brief
The Ships Equipment Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, including power supply and propulsion systems. This role requires a strong understanding of marine engineering principles, hands-on experience with maritime systems, and proficiency in industry-standard software tools. The ideal candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and efficiency in marine operations.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative ship equipment and machinery to enhance vessel performance and reliability.
- Evaluate and test marine systems and components to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular maintenance and inspections of ship machinery, power supply, and propulsion systems to ensure optimal operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including naval architects and marine technicians, to integrate equipment designs into overall vessel architecture.
- Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, schematics, and maintenance manuals for ship systems.
- Analyze system performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary modifications.
- Stay current with advancements in marine technology and industry best practices to maintain competitive edge.
- Provide technical support and training to crew members on the operation and maintenance of ship equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in marine equipment design, development, and evaluation.
- Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, electrical power systems, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ABS, DNV GL, ISO).
- Proficiency in engineering software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB).
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is a plus.
