Job Brief

The Shipfitter Apprentice will support the assembly and fabrication of ship structures by laying out reference points and dimensions on various materials, including metal and plastic stock. This entry-level position requires hands-on experience and a willingness to learn under the guidance of skilled shipfitters. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, the ability to read blueprints, and familiarity with basic shipfitting tools and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out reference points and dimensions on metal or plastic workpieces for ship assembly.
  • Assist in cutting, shaping, and assembling various structural components.
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with experienced shipfitters to achieve project goals and timelines.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge in shipfitting.
  • Support quality control measures to ensure precision in fabrication and assembly tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of metal and plastic fabrication processes.
