Job Brief
The Ship Rigger is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and repairing rigging systems for maritime applications, construction sites, and manufacturing environments. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and hands-on experience to ensure safe and effective lifting and securing of heavy loads. The ideal candidate possesses strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of rigging standards and safety protocols. Experience in shipyards or related industries is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair rigging equipment, including hoists, pulleys, and cables.
- Inspect rigging systems to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and other construction professionals to develop rigging plans for various projects.
- Perform load calculations and determine the appropriate lifting techniques for various materials.
- Utilize hand tools and power tools to assemble and disassemble rigging components.
- Conduct routine maintenance on rigging equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Provide training and guidance to junior riggers and team members on safe rigging practices.
- Document rigging inspections and maintenance activities for compliance and reporting purposes.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a rigger or in a similar role within shipyards, construction, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of rigging techniques, safety standards, and equipment usage.
- Certification in rigging or related fields (e.g., NCCCO, OSHA) is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent physical stamina and strength to handle heavy lifting and working at heights.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
