Job Brief
The Sheet Metal Layout Mechanic is responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing various sheet metal products and equipment, including ducts, control boxes, and furnace casings. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of metalworking techniques and the ability to operate fabricating machines to cut, bend, and shape sheet metal. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in soldering and welding, along with the ability to inspect and smooth seams and joints for optimal functionality.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate and assemble sheet metal products according to specifications and blueprints.
- Set up and operate fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.
- Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hand tools and hammers.
- Operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts effectively.
- Inspect and assemble sheet metal components, ensuring quality and precision.
- Smooth seams and joints of burred surfaces to maintain product integrity.
- Install prefabricated sheet metal ducts for heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication and installation issues.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in sheet metal fabrication is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Sheet Metal Layout Mechanic or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes and techniques.
- Familiarity with operating fabricating machines and hand tools.
- Experience with soldering and welding, including MIG and TIG techniques.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
