Job Brief
The Serials or Bindery Library Technical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting library operations by assisting patrons with the efficient use of library catalogs, databases, and indexes. This position requires a detail-oriented individual to help locate books and other materials, answer standard reference inquiries, and manage circulation processes. Responsibilities
- Assist patrons in navigating library catalogs, databases, and indexes to locate books and materials.
- Answer brief reference questions and provide guidance on library resources.
- Compile and maintain accurate records of library materials and circulation transactions.
- Sort, shelve, and organize books and media in accordance with library classification systems.
- Inspect and repair damaged books and other media to ensure preservation and usability.
- Register new patrons and manage check-in and check-out processes of library materials.
- Assist in the maintenance of mobile library services, including driving bookmobiles as needed.
- Collaborate with librarians and staff to implement library programs and services.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant coursework in library sciences preferred.
- Experience working in a library setting is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with library management systems and cataloging practices.
- Proficient in using computers and various software applications related to library operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective patron interaction.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload efficiently.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver’s license if responsible for driving bookmobile services.
