Job Brief
The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly environment within educational facilities. This role involves performing essential cleaning duties, including heavy cleaning tasks and routine maintenance activities. Ideal candidates will have experience in custodial services, possess strong attention to detail, and demonstrate reliability in ensuring a safe and sanitary space for students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform thorough cleaning of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Execute heavy cleaning tasks such as floor scrubbing, carpet shampooing, and window washing.
- Manage waste disposal by removing rubbish and ensuring proper recycling practices are followed.
- Monitor and maintain heating and cooling systems, including furnace and boiler upkeep.
- Conduct routine maintenance activities and report any necessary repairs to management promptly.
- Clear snow and debris from sidewalks and entrances to maintain safe access for students and staff.
- Utilize cleaning supplies and equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Assist with special events and setup as needed, ensuring facilities are prepared for various activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Proven experience in custodial services or related cleaning roles.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, as well as safe handling practices.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and vacuum cleaners.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform strenuous tasks.
- Valid driver’s license may be required for transportation of equipment or supplies.
