Job Brief

The School Crossing Guard plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of students, parents, and pedestrians while guiding or controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic at designated locations such as school zones, streets, railroad crossings, and construction sites. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Previous experience in public safety, traffic management, or similar roles is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and direct traffic flow at school crossings to ensure the safety of children and pedestrians.
  • Assist students crossing the street and promote safe pedestrian practices.
  • Communicate effectively with motorists and pedestrians to enforce traffic regulations.
  • Report any hazardous conditions or incidents to appropriate authorities.
  • Maintain a visible presence in school zones to deter unsafe behaviors.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and school officials to address safety concerns.
  • Educate students and parents about traffic safety and pedestrian laws.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on safety protocols and traffic management practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; experience in traffic management or public safety is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and pedestrian safety practices.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Background check clearance required for employment.
