Job Brief
As a School Bus Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and overhauling school buses and trucks, with a specific focus on maintaining and repairing diesel engines. This role requires a skilled technician with experience in automotive or marine diesel engines, ensuring the safety and reliability of school transportation vehicles. Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical issues in school buses and trucks using diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and brake inspections.
- Overhaul and rebuild major components, such as engines, transmissions, and rear axles.
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections performed on each vehicle.
- Collaborate with other mechanics and transportation staff to resolve vehicle issues efficiently.
- Stay current with technological advancements in diesel engine repair and maintenance practices.
- Assist in ordering and managing inventory of parts and supplies needed for repairs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification from a vocational school or equivalent experience preferred.
- Proven experience as a bus mechanic or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of diesel engine systems.
- ASE certification in Diesel Engines or related fields preferred.
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools relevant to vehicle repair.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
