Job Brief

As a Reinforcing Steel Worker, you will play a critical role in the construction industry by positioning and securing steel bars or mesh within concrete forms to enhance structural integrity. This role requires hands-on experience in reinforcing steel placement, a solid understanding of construction safety protocols, and proficiency with a variety of tools including fasteners, rod-bending machines, and blowtorches. Ideal candidates will demonstrate attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship, ensuring that projects meet industry standards and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Install and secure steel reinforcement bars (rebar) and mesh in concrete forms according to project specifications.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and machinery to cut, bend, and shape reinforcing steel.
  • Collaborate with other construction team members to ensure accurate placement of steel reinforcements.
  • Inspect and verify that all steel installations comply with safety and engineering standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine the layout of reinforcements.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure rebar is positioned correctly for concrete pouring.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new team members on steel placement techniques and safety practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Reinforcing Steel Worker or in a similar construction role.
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety protocols and practices.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, rod-bending machines, and blowtorches.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Certification in OSHA safety training or equivalent is a plus.
