Job Brief
The Refuse Collector is responsible for the efficient collection and transport of refuse and recyclable materials from designated containers to disposal trucks. This role requires a strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols while operating collection vehicles. Responsibilities
- Collect refuse and recyclable materials from residential and commercial containers.
- Operate refuse collection vehicles, ensuring adherence to traffic and safety regulations.
- Dump collected materials into the truck, ensuring proper weight distribution.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of collection vehicles.
- Maintain accurate records of collection routes and materials collected.
- Assist in training new staff on proper collection procedures and safety practices.
- Engage with the public in a professional manner while performing duties.
- Follow established protocols for hazardous materials handling and disposal.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Experience in refuse collection or waste management preferred.
- Ability to lift heavy items and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in waste disposal.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work early morning shifts and variable hours as needed.
