Job Brief

The Range Conservationist plays a crucial role in managing, improving, and protecting rangeland ecosystems to ensure sustainable use of natural resources. This position requires expertise in soil conservation, land management practices, and effective communication with farmers, ranchers, and agricultural managers. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, knowledge of environmental regulations, and a commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct soil surveys and assessments to evaluate land health and identify erosion issues.
  • Develop and implement conservation plans to protect rangelands and enhance soil quality.
  • Advise farmers and ranchers on best practices for crop rotation, contour plowing, and terracing to conserve soil and water.
  • Provide guidance on optimal livestock management and forage plant selection suited to specific rangelands.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote sustainable land use and resource management practices.
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of conservation initiatives and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct educational workshops and training sessions on soil conservation and rangeland management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in conservation techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Range Management, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in soil conservation, land management, or agricultural consulting.
  • Strong understanding of ecological principles, rangeland ecosystems, and sustainable practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare detailed reports on land conditions and conservation strategies.
  • Proficiency in using GIS and other land management software tools.
  • Certification in soil conservation or related fields is a plus.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
