Job Brief

The Railway Signal Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of electric gate crossings, signals, signal equipment, track switches, section lines, and intercommunication systems within the railroad system. This role requires a strong understanding of signaling technology, safety protocols, and troubleshooting techniques to ensure the safe and efficient operation of rail services. The ideal candidate will possess relevant technical skills and experience in railway systems, contributing to the reliability and safety of rail operations.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure electric gate crossings and signal systems for optimal performance.
  • Conduct regular inspections and testing of signal equipment and track switches to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on malfunctioning signals and intercommunication systems.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed on railway signaling equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to enhance system performance and safety measures.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols while working on railroad infrastructure.
  • Provide on-call support for emergency repairs and technical assistance as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in railway signaling or related fields preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Railway Signal Technician or in a similar role within the railroad industry.
  • Strong understanding of electric gate crossings, signal systems, and track-switching technology.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting signaling issues.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards pertaining to railway operations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various job sites as required.
