Job Brief
As a Railway Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various rail vehicles and equipment used in freight and passenger transportation. Your primary duties include monitoring train operations, adhering to safety protocols, and performing routine inspections and maintenance on rail equipment. Candidates should have experience in rail operations, a strong understanding of railway safety regulations, and excellent problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Operate locomotives, freight cars, and other railway equipment according to established safety protocols.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in safe, working condition.
- Monitor train performance and troubleshoot issues during operations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other railway personnel to coordinate operations.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local railway regulations.
- Assist in loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper handling and securement.
- Maintain accurate logs of train operations, mechanical issues, and other relevant data.
- Participate in training programs and safety drills as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certification preferred.
- Proven experience as a Railway Equipment Operator or similar role in the rail industry.
- In-depth knowledge of railway safety regulations and operational protocols.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance tasks.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license and, if applicable, a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
