Job Brief

As a Railroad Track Mechanic, you will be responsible for laying, repairing, and maintaining railroad tracks for standard and narrow-gauge equipment utilized in various settings, including regular railroad service and industrial sites such as quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. This role requires hands-on experience with track maintenance equipment, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety. Ideal candidates will possess a background in railroad operations and repair, along with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lay and install new railroad tracks in compliance with safety and industry standards.
  • Repair and maintain existing tracks to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Operate ballast cleaning machines and railroad bed tamping machines to maintain track stability.
  • Inspect tracks and related infrastructure for signs of wear and damage.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and machinery used in track repair and installation.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and safely.
  • Document maintenance activities and report any issues to supervisors.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols while on the job site.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in railroad operations preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Railroad Track Mechanic or in a similar role within the railroad industry.
  • Strong knowledge of track maintenance practices and safety regulations.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery, including ballast cleaning and tamping equipment.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools used in track installation and repair.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical labor.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
