Job Brief

The Railroad Car Inspector is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of rail transportation vehicles through thorough inspections of freight cars, passenger coaches, and other rail equipment. Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of freight and passenger rail cars to assess structural integrity and safety compliance.
  • Identify and document defects or irregularities in rail vehicles and equipment, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and preventative inspections on railcars to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to address identified issues and recommend repairs.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and reports, documenting findings and actions taken.
  • Stay updated on safety regulations, industry standards, and technological advancements related to railcar inspection.
  • Provide support during audits and investigations related to railcar safety and compliance.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior inspectors on best practices and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certification in railroad operations preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Railroad Car Inspector or in a similar role within the transportation industry.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, mechanical systems, and inspection methodologies in rail transport.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain required certifications for rail inspection.
