Job Brief
As a Railroad Brake Operator, you will play a vital role in the safe and efficient operation of trains by managing railroad track switches and locomotive instruments. Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor railroad track switches and locomotive instruments to ensure safe train movements.
- Couple and uncouple rolling stock to assemble and disassemble trains as per operational requirements.
- Watch for and relay traffic signals to maintain communication with train operators and ground personnel.
- Inspect couplings, air hoses, journal boxes, and hand brakes to ensure all equipment is in safe working order.
- Monitor the tracks for dragging equipment or obstacles that may affect train safety and operations.
- Maintain accurate records of operational activities and any incidents that occur during shifts.
- Collaborate with other railroad personnel to uphold safety protocols and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certification in railroad operations is preferred.
- Prior experience as a railroad brake operator, conductor, or similar role within the railway industry.
- Strong understanding of railroad safety regulations and operational protocols.
- Proficiency in operating locomotive instruments and track switching equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and relay information clearly.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving equipment issues promptly.
