Job Brief

The Public Health Sanitarian Technician plays a critical role in safeguarding community health by performing laboratory and field tests to monitor environmental conditions and identify pollution sources. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of public health principles and environmental science. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in sample collection and analysis, as well as proficiency in using various testing equipment and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory and field tests to assess environmental quality and public health risks.
  • Collect and analyze samples of air, water, soil, and other materials for contaminants.
  • Investigate sources of pollution and report findings to environmental scientists and engineers.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results, sample collections, and environmental assessments.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of public health policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and stakeholders to address environmental health concerns.
  • Provide recommendations for improving environmental conditions based on data analysis.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in public health and environmental science.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in laboratory testing and environmental monitoring techniques.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and public health standards.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and data analysis software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with team members.
  • Certification as a Registered Sanitarian or similar credential is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
