Job Brief
As a Psychiatric Nursing Aide, you will play a crucial role in supporting mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed patients under the direction of nursing and medical staff. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with daily living activities, facilitating educational and recreational activities, and ensuring patient safety during examinations and treatments. Ideal candidates will possess strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to manage challenging situations effectively.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility.
- Support nursing and medical staff in delivering patient care, following established protocols.
- Lead patients in therapeutic and recreational activities to promote mental wellness and engagement.
- Monitor patient behavior and communicate any changes or concerns to nursing staff.
- Accompany patients to and from medical examinations and treatments, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Implement de-escalation techniques and restrain violent patients if necessary, following safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to care plans for patients.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a nursing aide training program preferred.
- Certification as a Nursing Aide or related field is advantageous.
- Experience working in a psychiatric or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and staff.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and manage patient behavior with patience and empathy.
- Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures in a healthcare environment.
- Basic understanding of mental health issues and treatment methodologies.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
