Job Brief
The Prosthetist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for patients with disabling conditions by designing, measuring, fitting, and adapting orthopedic braces, prostheses, and appliances. This position requires a solid understanding of biomechanics and materials, as well as strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and healthcare teams. Ideal candidates will have relevant clinical experience and possess the technical acumen needed to deliver high-quality prosthetic solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate custom prosthetic devices, ensuring optimal fit and function for individual patients.
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ needs, including physical evaluations and mobility assessments.
- Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Fit and adjust prostheses and orthopedic appliances, providing patient education on usage and maintenance.
- Utilize advanced materials and technology to create innovative prosthetic solutions.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation of treatments and modifications.
- Stay updated on advancements in prosthetics and orthotics through continuous education and professional development.
- Advocate for patients’ needs and assist in navigating insurance and reimbursement processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics or a related field.
- Certification as a Certified Prosthetist (CP) from a recognized body, such as the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in prosthetics or a related healthcare field.
- Strong knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy, and material science.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
- Proficiency in using prosthetic fabrication equipment and software.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary healthcare environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with industry advancements.
