Job Brief

The Prosthetics Lab Technician is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing medical supportive devices, including prosthetic limbs, braces, orthotics, and other surgical appliances. This role requires proficiency in utilizing specialized tools and equipment, along with a strong understanding of anatomy and biomechanics. Ideal candidates will have experience in a laboratory setting, a passion for enhancing patient mobility, and excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Construct and customize prosthetic devices based on patient specifications and clinical assessments.
  • Maintain and repair existing prosthetic and orthotic devices to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to gather patient information and tailor devices accordingly.
  • Utilize advanced technology and tools, such as 3D printing and CAD software, for device creation.
  • Conduct quality control inspections to ensure that all devices meet safety and performance standards.
  • Document all procedures and patient interactions accurately for compliance and record-keeping.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements and best practices in prosthetics and orthotics.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support to patients during fittings and adjustments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in prosthetics and orthotics preferred.
  • Certification from a recognized program in orthotics and prosthetics (e.g., ABC or BOC certification).
  • Proven experience as a Prosthetics Lab Technician or in a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and materials used in prosthetic device fabrication.
  • Proficient in using CAD software and other design tools for device construction.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare providers.
