Job Brief

As a Police Dispatcher, you will be the critical communication link between the public and emergency response personnel. Your primary responsibilities will include operating communication systems to receive and relay emergency calls, prioritizing incidents, and coordinating responses from law enforcement and emergency medical services. The ideal candidate will possess strong multitasking abilities, excellent verbal communication skills, and a commitment to public safety, with experience in high-pressure environments.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls through telephone and radio communication systems.
  • Gather and assess information from callers regarding incidents such as crimes, threats, and medical emergencies.
  • Prioritize and dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services based on the urgency of the situation.
  • Coordinate with various emergency response teams to relay critical information and ensure effective response efforts.
  • Access and utilize sensitive databases and other information sources to provide timely and accurate information.
  • Offer additional instructions to callers as needed, based on knowledge of emergency procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate logs of calls, actions taken, and incidents dispatched for record-keeping and analysis.
  • Participate in training programs to stay updated on law enforcement procedures, communication techniques, and technology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in criminal justice or public safety preferred.
  • Prior experience in emergency dispatch, customer service, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using multi-line phone systems, radio communication devices, and computer-aided dispatch software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and efficiently.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, managing multiple tasks and prioritizing accordingly.
  • Knowledge of public safety protocols and emergency response procedures is a plus.
  • Certification in emergency dispatch or related training is advantageous.
  • Must pass background checks and meet agency requirements for employment.
